SV Sub Branch Meeting 17/08/16
The Ship, Alveston
Martin Farrimond (Chair)
Simon Wells (Secretary)
Latest number confirmed as 100. A comment was made at the last Bristol branch committee meeting that this was normally "stagnant" which was challenged at the meeting as membership 12 months ago was in the mid 80's (a c.17% increase in that time).
Knot of Rope has re-opened (again) but was reported after the meeting as having closed again.
The Mezze has closed and will re-open as The George. Re-opening is delayed due to planning issues (pub signage and colour) and objections to 3am licence application.
Rumours that Pete Tiley may take over The Mogul as another pub in addition to the Salutation. Martin confirmed this with Pete verbally after the meeting.
The Railway Tavern is re-opening in Charfield.
The Salmon (Wandswell) is under new management and was reported as keen to work with CAMRA. Martin to follow up with Dursley branch as it is in their area.
Bath Ales have been taken over by St Austell
Liberation (including Butcombe) taken over by Caledonian.
Rumours of a new brewery in Thornbury called Cocksure. Martin has tried to establish contact, but no response from them as yet.
Winchcombe and Toddington North Cotswold 20-21 August.
Cross Hands, Alveston August bank holiday.
Tytherington (exact location TBC) August bank holiday.
Swansea Beer Festival 25-27 August .
Frocester Beer Festival 26-27 August
Cheltenham Beer Festival 26-28 August
Cardiff Beer Festival 22-24 September (www.GWBCF.info)
A CAMRA organised Thornbury Beer Festival was discussed and it was agreed that a special Festival committee meeting needs to be convened to discuss further. All present volunteered to help feasibility, planning and execution. CC to contact some potential venues. A date around May 2017 was suggested.
Martin to send an email via the CAMRA comms tool to U-35 members (c.3) to ask what under 35's are looking to gain from CAMRA membership.
Young Members - John Gatty has spoken to Steve Edmonds and will follow up and ask what young members activities are being organised by Bristol branch in order to share them with Severn Vale young members.
The collection of Pints West from Bristol for the Severn Vale sub-branch was discussed. Simon advised that he can now organise to both work in Bristol and car parking which would allow collection from either the Lime Kiln (preferably) or alternatively the Cornubia after work. Advance warning of when copies will be available in either location would be required however (preferably a week but more if possible) to allow him to make arrangements. If this is not possible then he could collect them once notified they are available but it may be a week or so later or alternatively someone else would need to collect.
GBG launch on 16/9 in Lime Kiln.
Combined Brewers trip 29th September, if interested please contact Martin.
Beer scoring - Martin urged members to do so.
The Horseshoe (Chipping Sodbury) will replace the Old Spot (Dursley) Socials due to the change of bus timetables and general reliability of the service. There may be some trips to the Old Spot by exception. Contact John Gatty for details.
The Ship served:
Wadworths 6X (which was decidedly off, though they continued to serve it)
